Grand Targhee Opening Day: November 20, 2026
The first ski day of the season just hits different. IYKYK. The bustle of getting back on the mountain, making those first turns, and kicking off another winter in the Tetons is hard to top. Grand Targhee in Alta, Wyoming, is famous for its impressive snowfall, getting pounded with roughly 500 inches annually. You might not repeat a run with an offering of over 2,600 acres of skiable terrain. The 2026–2027 season is scheduled to run through April 18, 2027, and opening day terrain will depend on early-season snow conditions.
A few tips to make your first ski day a little easier:
- Buy your lift tickets early. Purchasing online in advance will save you time and money! Check Grand Targhee’s lift ticket options before you go. This will be a game changer, especially to avoid lines at the counter.
- Check the mountain conditions. Only Mother Nature knows what is in store for coverage in the early season. Visit the Daily Mountain Report for current snow conditions and weather updates.
- See what’s open. The Lifts & Trails Report will help you plan your day around available lifts and terrain.
- Give yourself a little extra time. Opening weekend and powder days can be busy; try to build in a time buffer for slowly driving, parking and catching a parking lot shuttle to the base.
Ski and Snowboard Rentals in Driggs
Lugging ski equipment can weigh you down, literally and figuratively. No fretting required, Driggs has two excellent local ski shops that can help you get everything you need, top to bottom.
Habitat Dirt + Snow is located on Main Street in downtown Driggs and offers ski and snowboard rentals for a variety of abilities. PRO TIP: Reserve equipment online ahead of time to save time. Think of it as ordering takeout, for adventure seekers.
Peaked Sports is another local institution and Teton Valley favorite, offering ski and snowboard rentals. But they will also rent you Nordic equipment, snowshoes, and plenty of helpful local knowledge. There is always a sweet ski shop pup awaiting an ear scratch at no extra cost. If possible, get fitted and pick up your rental equipment the afternoon before your ski day. This is a no-brainer if you can pull it off to maximize laps the next day.
