If you are visiting Teton Valley at the end of April,  mark on your list of Driggs Idaho activities: Grand Targhee exciting season finale. Our local mountain chose to host a post-season event as a capstone to the end of the regular 2013-2014 winter season. The Crazy Horse Snowmobile Hill Climb came to Grand Targhee this weekend, and as it turned out, it landed on what now has become  one of the more memorable and top quality powder dumps of the winter. Over the course of the 48 hour weekend, the top of the lifts gracefully accepted close to 25 inches of fresh, fluffy, and surprisingly light spring snow. Passholders who gained an extra two days of skiing were delighted-as were the spectators of the simultaneous event of snow machine racing. This weekend, a mountain only as welcoming and casual as Grand Targhee allowed one person to be a snowmobile racer, recreational alpine skier, and spectator all in one day!

This was the first annual event of this kind, and also, the first time GT has hosted an organized RMSHA (Rocky Mountain Snowmobile Hillclimb Association) sanctioned event in history, and is surely not to be the last time. Over 130 racers covering all spectrums of classes completed 4oo runs that started just above the Dream Catcher lift and ran vertically to the finish gate about 3/4 the way up the face of Fred’s mountain.

Teton Valley Cabins, of course hosted several groups of spectators and skiers over the weekend, who were naturally thrilled at the convenient location to the event, as well as the incredible value of our spring off-season special. Mark your calendars for next year and don’t ever miss this event again!
